BPC-157

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide (Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) corresponding to a partial sequence of a protein isolated from human gastric juice, first described by Sikiric and colleagues at the University of Zagreb in 1993 (Jozwiak et al., Pharmaceuticals 2025). Published literature is almost entirely rodent-based: review articles catalogue rat and mouse injury models in which angiogenesis, nitric oxide signalling and tissue-repair endpoints were examined (Seiwerth et al., Frontiers in Pharmacology 2021). Human data remain minimal. A registered Phase I safety and pharmacokinetic study in 42 healthy volunteers (NCT02637284) was cancelled without published results, and no regulator has approved the compound.
