KPV
KPV is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal lysine-proline-valine sequence of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, alpha-MSH(11-13). Published work on the compound is limited to cell-based and rodent studies rather than human trials. Investigators have examined its uptake by the di/tripeptide transporter PepT1 in human intestinal epithelial and T-cell lines, alongside NF-kB and MAP kinase signalling and cytokine secretion endpoints, in chemically induced murine colitis models (Dalmasso et al., Gastroenterology 2008). Related rodent work characterised the peptide in dextran sulfate sodium and transfer colitis models, including animals with non-functional melanocortin-1 receptors (Kannengiesser et al., Inflammatory Bowel Diseases 2008).
