Tesamorelin

Tesamorelin is a synthetic, N-terminally stabilised analogue of human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44), developed by Theratechnologies and acting at the pituitary GHRH receptor. It received United States regulatory approval in 2010 under the trade name Egrifta for HIV-associated lipodystrophy. Randomised, placebo-controlled phase 3 investigation in adults with HIV and abdominal adipose accumulation examined visceral adipose tissue, IGF-1 and lipid endpoints (Falutz et al., NEJM 2007); a later randomised study assessed hepatic adipose content and glucose measures over six months (Stanley et al., JAMA 2014). The published record here derives from human randomised trials rather than animal models.
