Thymosin Alpha-1
Thymosin Alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid, N-terminally acetylated acidic peptide first isolated from thymic tissue as part of thymosin fraction 5 (Costantini et al., Frontiers in Oncology 2019). Its synthetic form, thymalfasin, is registered as a medicine in some jurisdictions, though not the United States. Published literature characterises it as an immunomodulator and has examined it in chronic hepatitis B and C, oncology, and critical care settings. Clinical programmes in severe sepsis include the multicentre randomised ETASS trial (Wu et al., Critical Care 2013), and a later meta-analysis pooled 11 randomised trials comprising 1,927 participants (Gu et al., Frontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology 2025).
