5-Amino-1MQ
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule, cell-permeable inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme that transfers a methyl group from S-adenosyl-methionine to nicotinamide, yielding 1-methylnicotinamide and intersecting the NAD+ salvage pathway. It was characterised within a medicinal-chemistry series screened for NNMT selectivity and membrane permeability (Neelakantan et al., Biochemical Pharmacology 2018). Published work remains limited to rodent and cell-based research, in which NNMT inhibition has been examined alongside body-composition and adipose-tissue metabolite endpoints, including designs combining it with reduced-calorie feeding (Dimet-Wiley et al., Scientific Reports 2022). Human data are not available in the published literature.
